Wilson Zachary McConnell

At my 39 week check up the doctor told me she could induce me right at 40 weeks. When I went to the desk to schedule the appointment, the only thing available was at 40 weeks and 2 days. After almost 3 weeks of constantly getting my hopes up about the baby coming, I had a hard time holding back the tears until I got to the car. A few days later, on Monday morning the 19th, I called the doctor's office to try to get a sooner appointment. I know it's only a few days, but I had been having such a hard time, I just couldn't imagine being pregnant for up to another week. Anyways, I called the office about 10am and got an appointment with a different doctor. About 30 minutes later, I started getting really bad back pain, so I sat on the couch with a heating pad trying to relax it. But then I started getting contractions. They were pretty painful. I didn't want to call Jacob and his mom out of work, and have my mom come all the way to town, and have it be a false alarm. So I started timing them. After about 40 minutes, the contractions were about 6-7 minutes apart and lasting about 45 seconds each. I called Jacob crying and told him they were really painful and that I think we should go to the hospital. I had just laid Kayla down for a nap, so we called his mom to just come to the house, rather than meet her at the hospital. They were both probably at the house within 20 minutes. Driving to the hospital my contractions got down to 5 minutes apart so I stopped keeping track. I was also starting to feel a little bit of pressure with each one. It was about noon when we got to the hospital, I told her about the pressure so she checked me before we went up to L&D and I was at a 6 and my water was "bulgy". By the time we made it to L&D and I changed into a gown, I was at a 7-8. I knew there was no way I was getting an epidural... Within 10 minutes of laying on the bed my water broke. All I can remember is being in SO MUCH PAIN... It wasn't much longer when I was ready to push. In one contraction, with a few big pushes (and no tear this time) Wilson Zachary McConnell was born. He weighed 8 lbs 5 oz and was 20&1/2 inches long. He was born at 1:06pm. That makes both of my labors about 2&1/2 hours long each. Please don't hate me or tell me how lucky I am. It may be fast, but that it the most excruciating thing to experience and I wouldn't wish labor pain on my worst enemy.

Maybe 15 minutes after I had Wilson, Jacob asked me how I was doing. My immediate reply was "I feel fantastic!!". It was like night and day, from feeling absolutely terrible for such a long time (plus those awful contractions and pushing a kid out of me) to pushing the baby out and literally feeling a weight lifted off of me!

Big sister meeting Wilson for the 1st time, she was ecstatic.

Kayla loves her little brother SO much!! Sometimes she tries to be a little too helpful, but she has been so good with him. It melts my heart to see her love him as much as she does.

It's hard to see, but the bottom corner of this blanket says "Wilson"

Getting ready to take baby home.
My recovery with Kayla was pretty easy. I was worried it would be harder the 2nd time around, but I feel like it was pretty similar. I did however take it easy with picking up Kayla for the 1st week since my mom was there to help. (I had a harder time taking things easy the 1st time around. I was doing laundry the day I got home from the hospital) One thing I wasn't expecting was the cramping!! At the hospital with Kayla, I remember it hurting when they would push down and massage to help my uterus contract back down. I do not remember it hurting once I was home. With this one, it hurt for almost up to a week after delivery. It was worst when breastfeeding. Just FYI, apparently that pain gets worse with each subsequent delivery.

We brought our sweet baby boy home from the hospital on our 3 year anniversary! (We spent about 26 hours at the hospital altogether)

My pretty anniversary flowers!

Grandma Ruske stayed with us for a week and helped out. Papa Ruske came up one evening, from Katy, to meet his newest grandson.

My sister, Missy, was staying away since her family had been sick. She loves babies and she loves Lupe's. When my dad came up for the evening we went to Lupe's for dinner and I sent her a picture of both of them. I'm a mean sister ;)

We love our grandma!!

Wilson's first bath, he was not a fan. He finally calmed down after he was dried off and clothed.

We think he might have a double crown like his daddy

His hair is definitely fuzzy like his dads, we'll see if that changes or not.

Never a shortage of kisses for baby brother.

Kayla's umbilical stump took 15 days to come out. Wilson's only took 10.

My mom, sisters, and sister inlaw all went in on a double stroller for us.

We all love it!!
